Project Overview

Background

When the existing concrete cantilevered balconies on this 1960s social housing block in Croydon required replacing, WC Evans & Sons Ltd were instructed by a main contractor to provide a high quality, cost-effective solution.

The project required the removal of the existing ageing balconies, followed by the fabrication and installation of new galvanised steel cantilevered balconies, complete with new ornate powder coated balustrading and steel deck plates.

Solution Provided

Following the careful removal of the existing balconies, the new balconies were retro fitted to the existing concrete slab using thermally efficient Schöck brackets. They were then clad underneath with an architectural powder coated aluminium cladding system.

As installation was being carried out in a live environment, it was important to minimise any disruption to the residents and health & safety excellence was essential at all times.

The new balconies also have an integral gulley linked to aluminium downpipes. This enables all rainwater to be efficiently discharged, eliminating the perennial rainwater drainage problems that had previously been experienced.

The successful finished project has provided an aesthetically pleasing, long lasting and maintenance-free face lift to this traditional social housing tower block.
