Solution
Structural Support Steelwork

Project Overview
Background
This project was carried out on a listed council owned building situated in Ewell, Surrey. Our brief was to fabricate and install structural support steelwork which would be used to take an array of solar panels that were due to be installed onto the roof area.
Solution Provided
On a building like this the solar panels would normally be installed directly onto the flat roof surface. However, on this occasion the structural engineer deemed that the existing concrete flat roof was not capable of accepting the increased loading of the solar panels. The specified solution was to introduce structural steelwork in order to accept the additional loading and remove the need for anything weight bearing on the actual roof surface.
Throughout this project, WC Evans & Sons Ltd worked in close collaboration with the client, engineer and solar panel manufacturers to provide a suitable steel support structure that would meet the requirements of the subsequent PV installation. The bespoke solution featured a hot dipped galvanised finish, providing a long lasting and maintenance free corrosion resistant structure.
In conclusion, this was a highly successful project and another fine example of WC Evans & Sons Ltd’s ability to provide quality, tailored steel solutions to meet challenging client requirements.
